Helping Patients Reach Their Peak Potential

Atualizado: 12 de nov. de 2020

I became a doctor to help people. As an emergency physician I take care of extremely sick individuals who are often in their eleventh hour

Dr. Thierry Jacquemin is a board-certified internist but he finds that treating disease is not enough. He works with patients to help them achieve their peak health.

“I am part of a big movement that is changing the way medicine is currently practiced. My approach is different from what doctors have practiced in the past. They would say, ‘This is your ailment. Here’s a pill. Now, goodbye.’ But I don’t believe in putting the proverbial bandage on the problem; I believe in helping my patients achieve their pinnacle of health, happiness and productivity,” Dr. Jacquemin says.

Born in Brazil of French ancestry, Dr. Jacquemin moved to Miami with his family when he was a teenager. “I consider myself a citizen of the world,” he notes, to which his fluency in five languages attests.

When Dr. Jacquemin was in college, his older brother tore the ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) in his knee, which is a common sports injury. “My brother had to have knee surgery after he was injured playing soccer and I would drive him to his doctor’s appointments. I met the surgeon and the physical therapist, and I saw his treatment. This led to my interest in sports medicine,” Dr. Jacquemin recalls.

Dr. Jacquemin went on to get his medical degree from Nova Southeastern University and he served as chief resident before going to work in the Emergency Department of Palmetto General Hospital. He is still an attending physician there, dividing his time between the hospital and his South Miami medical practice.

Dr. Jacquemin holds several certifications in internal medicine and he is also a member of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine, the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine and the American Osteopathic Association.

This makes him highly skilled in the specialties he practices, which fall into two fields: cardiometabolic prevention and human performance. Cardiometabolic prevention is a cutting-edge field that goes well beyond traditional medicine. While that form of medicine looked at risk factors like blood pressure and cholesterol, cardiometabolic medicine goes beyond this to get at the root cause of these ailments, which science is now proving is inflammation. “This is the next generation of preventative medicine,” states Dr. Jacquemin.

Human performance medicine encompasses sports medicine but, again, goes beyond this field to help all people, not just athletes, attain their peak levels of functioning. Dr. Jacquemin does this by taking into consideration genetics, hormonal factors, nutritional factors and other deficiencies that can play a role in weight gain and lack of energy.

In his practice, Dr. Jacquemin treats a wide diversity of patients, ranging from professional athletes to the elderly and everyone in-between. “Many of my patients are high-performing people in their 30s, 40s and 50s. Whether or not they are athletes, they are looking to maximize their performance, physically and emotionally,” he says.

Whether I am dealing with the standard person or the high performance athlete, I find that, in reality, the basic principles don’t differ all that much. Everyone does better with a certain amount of sleep, and certain types of food and exercise.

The services he offers include wellness physicals, sports physicals, advanced laboratory testing, executive health cardiometabolic management, and hormonal optimization and weight loss/body transformation.

Dr. Jacquemin offers the latest in aesthetic services as well, including Botox and fillers, the Vampire Facelift and Breastlift, Latisse, mesotherapy, hand rejuvenation and more. “Vanity gets a bad rap. The people who come to see me are people who feel good and also want to look good,” says Dr. Jacquemin, adding, “One motivation drives the other.“

When he is not at his practice or the emergency room, Dr. Jacquemin enjoys spending time with his wife and his two young sons, and handing down to them his love of sports. It is the perfect work/family combination for this skilled doctor who is achieving his goal of helping others.

“Professionally, I’m very proud of having had the fortitude to go forward and develop my practice in the way I want it to develop. To see people’s health change in a positive way demonstrates to me that I’m making an impact on how my patients will live the rest of their lives.”
